Frederique Constant’s Slimline Perpetual Calendar Designed by Peter Speake

A limited edition masterpiece balancing contemporary styling and technical brilliance.

A continuation of the close collaboration between British watchmaker Peter Speake and Geneva-based Frederique Constant reveals an exceptional timepiece for 2024. Housed in a 42-millimeter steel case, the Slimline Perpetual Calendar joins the Manufacture collection, striking a subtle balance between style and technical prowess. This contemporary creation, limited to 135 pieces, proudly showcases Speake’s bold stylistic approach.

Renowned for its refined styling, slim dimensions, and unashamed classicism, Frederique Constant’s iconic Manufacture collection welcomes a bold addition. The collaboration with Peter Speake brings forth a distinctive timepiece, limited to 135 pieces, featuring a strong and uncommon stylistic approach. Its imposing personality appeals to collectors seeking a perpetual calendar complication with a difference.

If there’s one word that sums up the Slimline Perpetual Calendar Manufacture Designed by Peter Speake, it’s ‘openwork.’ Speake’s ethereal, contemporary touch brings a new dimension to Frederique Constant. Solid surfaces are cut away to reveal the inner workings of the Manufacture movement. Displays and hands are skeletonized, revealing the mechanical ballet of the FC-775 calibre. The minimalist color palette of white and matt anthracite grey, with a dash of red, reflects Speake’s discreet and personal design philosophy.

The movement bears the hallmarks of Frederique Constant Manufacture, with each component boasting meticulous lined finishes. The perpetual calendar gears feature a circular satin finish, and blued screws add a touch of tradition. The transparent caseback unveils the openwork oscillating weight, charging up to a 38-hour power reserve. In a rare move, the rotor is colored blue, echoing the blued screws. Each timepiece is engraved with ‘Limited Edition 135 pieces’ and comes with a grey nylon strap.

Similar to the tourbillon, the perpetual calendar is a crowning complication of Fine Watchmaking. It allows wearers to read all calendar information at a glance, catering to the historic nuances of the Gregorian system. Frederique Constant’s Manufacture Perpetual Calendar achieves an optimal balance between readability and functionality. The day and date, essential daily information, are displayed along the horizontal axis. Additional details, such as the month and moonphase, are presented along the vertical axis. The leap year indicator is discreetly placed in the month display for intuitive reference.
