Chopard, alongside actor Christoph Waltz, wove a tale of creative splendor in the operatic realm, bringing to life “The Knight with the Rose” at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

An enchanting blend of opera and haute joaillerie took center stage as Chopard, the renowned luxury jewelry Maison, collaborated with actor Christoph Waltz for the comic opera “The Knight with the Rose” at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. The focal point of this artistic alliance was the creation of a magnificent rose symbolizing the promise of marriage, a task entrusted to Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, Caroline Scheufele.

In a contemporary twist, the iconic rose was meticulously crafted from blackened titanium, featuring articulated petals adorned with rubies, and leaves that shimmered with black diamond inlays. Beyond its role as a stage accessory, this sparkling jewel embodied the profound themes of love and emotion, requiring an astounding 450 hours of meticulous craftsmanship by the skilled artisans at Chopard.

Caroline Scheufele’s creative process extended beyond the jewelry, as she collaborated with costume designer Carla Teti. Access to Chopard’s latest Haute Joaillerie collections enhanced the opulence of the stage costumes, with diamonds arranged in Chopard’s signature lace design gracing a necklace and amethyst earrings complementing the Marschallin’s mauve dress. Each character’s jewelry became a visual extension of their role, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the opera.

Caroline Scheufele expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, stating, “Over the years, I was fortunate to have fascinating conversations about cinema and art with Christoph Waltz. When he invited me to associate Chopard creations with ‘The Knight with the Rose,’ I was captivated by his contemporary interpretation of this masterpiece.”

Costume designer Carla Teti added, “Chopard was a very generous, proactive, and cooperative partner. The rose was an important symbol of this play, an extraordinary piece of jewelry specially created for the show.”

The grand premiere of “The Knight with the Rose” took place on December 13th, 2023, at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, running until December 26th. Chopard’s commitment to the arts extended beyond this collaboration, with its 2023 Red Carpet Collection themed “Art.” The collection drew inspiration from architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature, dance, and cinema, resulting in 76 exquisite Haute Joaillerie creations that showcased the Maison’s dedication to celebrating human genius in all its forms.
