They have revisited their Galactic line and are offering us a slimmer version of their ladies watch, the Galactic 36 SleekT. As the name hints, this version is 36mm in size. The slimmer size allows for a more ergonomic fit. The watch still has the success points from earlier the collection’s history – it is water resistant to 100 m (330 ft.), has a shock-resistant case, a glare-proof sapphire crystal, and the large dial with luminescent hands and easy-to-read large hour-markers.
The bezel is easily the focus of this watch. After all, it is made of tungsten carbide. Tungsten was discovered by Spanish chemist-brothers, Fausto and Juan Jose de Elhuyar in 1783. Interestingly, the chemical symbol for tungsten is W (I spent minutes looking for it on the periodic table under ‘T’ to no avail.) It turns out that tungsten used to be known by its Germanic name, Wolfram. That explains the ‘W’ at tungsten’s chemical symbol.
Tungsten carbide is a chemical compound made of equal parts tungsten and carbon atoms. It is usually a fine gray powder but is twice as stiff and nearly five times as hard as steel. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s cool that the watch on my wrist could be stronger than Superman. Tungsten carbide is awesome – stronger than steel and scratchproof too. It’ll survive anything you throw at it, or anything thrown at you. And it looks divine!
