Blooming Perfection: Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust

Rolex releases the Oyster Perpetual Datejust with a perfect floral motif on the dial.

They say that all good things come in threes. The wishes, three fairies, three coins in a fountain. The ancient Greeks thought of three as the perfect number – it symbolized wisdom, harmony, and understanding.

To this we could add beauty and perfection. Specially when looking at the awe-inspiring Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31. Each of the, yes, three models is perfect in its own right. There is something for everyone, and honestly, it is rather hard to pick a favorite.

Let’s see what they all have in common. Each of these models is an Oyster Perpetual Classic timepiece, and 31 mm in diameter. The dial will have 24 dainty flowers, enough for a bouquet, and for that added sparkle, each flower has a diamond in the center. Each model is equipped with the calibre 2236, and the classic three-hander watch has the hours, minutes, seconds, and the date too. The cyclops lens on the sapphire crystal is here, over the date at the 3 o’clock. As expected, the watches have the Superlative Chronometer certification and an international five-year guarantee. Each watch is also waterproof to 100 meters (330 feet).

Now let’s see what sets each one apart.

Beautiful Blue

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust (case reference 278274) is a vision of blue and white and it is simply beautiful. The 24 flowers are in varying shades of azzurro blue, which really bring this floral motif to life. The case is in Oystersteel and white gold (white Rolesor), with the bezel in fluted white gold. The three-piece link President bracelet is a fitting match for the expanse of blue on the dial.

Calming Green

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust (case reference 278288 RBR) is a quiet partnering of green flowers, shiny 18 ct yellow gold, and oh yes, a diamond-set bezel. There are 46 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel, totaling just over a carat. Even with the diamonds, it is the perfectly executed flowers on the dial that will catch your eye and keep your attention.

Pristine Silver

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust (case reference 278381 RBR) is a gentle pairing of white and a touch of Everose gold. The dial is shiny and you can see the flowers but they seem less vibrant that the green and blue flowers on the other models. This watch would be ideal for someone looking for a more silent expression of the design aesthetic. The Everose gold on the bezel and crown is a nice accent; the bezel is diamond-set here too, with 46 brilliant-cut diamonds, and also just over a carat in total. This model differs from the two previous ones in the bracelet – the Jubilee bracelet is in use here, and three central links are in Everose gold, tying in nicely with the bezel

Perfection

One more thing these three watches in common, is actually something they don’t have. They don’t have hour markers, and frankly, they don’t need them. Each dial is beautiful and any marker, no matter how small or well-designed, would distract from the 2 dozen beautiful blooms. That’s another great thing about Rolex – they know to stop when they have reached perfection.
