All (cinematic) roads lead to Cannes this month for the Cannes Film Festival from May 17 – 28, 2022. The event celebrates what some call the seventh art. The first six arts are known to be painting, music, architecture, poetry, sculpture, and performing. Some say film is the culmination of all six arts into one dazzling and enrapturing package. Others say film is the seventh art, all unto itself. Either way, it deserves to be celebrated.
And celebrated it will be during the Cannes Film Festival. This, their 75th year of the festival, is proof positive that real life, and reel life, will go on no matter what is happening in the world. Another reason to celebrate is this year is Chopard’s 25th as an official partner of the festival. Through the years we have been enraptured both by films and the glamor of the red carpet. This year is no exception.
Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, has once again created a collection that will take our collective breath away. She has drawn inspiration from films as early back as the black and white days up until the modern colourful films. Each film tells a story, and each piece here promises stories of their own.
The first piece to consider might seem simple, but it is exquisite. A beautiful rose has been recreated in dazzling Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold and titanium set with diamonds. The creation is simple and yet sublime — if you can call 37.62 carats of white diamonds and 0.59 carats of black diamonds ‘simple’, that is. This is a tip of the hat to Charlie Chaplin’s film, City lights.
Another piece that seems to be inspired by the classic films of the past is the choker necklace in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold set with diamonds. This piece, with more than 200 carats in diamonds, definitely deserves the spotlight.
An ear for the story
Beauty is more than just superficial and these sapphire earrings in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold are a great example. Aside from being eye-catchingly stunning, the sapphires are unheated, meaning, they are pure in their beauty and did not need to be enhanced at all. Adding to the elegance here are the diamonds, purple pink diamonds, and fancy blue diamonds. For a similar style but with a more spirited layout of color, there are earrings in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold set with a oval-shaped grey spinel, a pink spinel, an orange spinel, and a green spinel, and pear-shaped and marquise-cut diamonds.
Collar me pretty
Flowers make an appearance elsewhere in this Red Carpet Collection, and this necklace is beautiful. The Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat yellow and white gold of the chain and the pendant are set with a total of 93 carats of games: yellow-orange sapphires (27.66 cts), yellow sapphires (22.83 cts), orange sapphires (28.2 cts), and diamonds (14.37 cts). The dazzling piece is like a stylized sunflower.
There are pieces here that would look great whether for glamor events or for those days when you feel like a little pizzazz should be added to your outfit. This bead necklace of dainty flowers, in a myriad of peridots, tsavorites, and apatites is cool-colored with the pendant in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold and titanium set with coloured sapphires, amethysts, sapphires, tsavorites, rubellites, mandarin garnets and spessartites. This is the sweetest pastel-colored peace sign.
If you need a little more show-stopping glamour, there is the collar-type necklace in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold and titanium set with rubellites (totalling 188.4 carats) and pink sapphires (22.61 cts). It is refined and elegant, fit for a princess.
For a diamond necklace like no other, this Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold set with a 13.69-carat internally flawless D-grade pear-shaped diamond and marquise cut diamonds totalling 43.31 carats is perfect. The craftsmanship is exquisite and this would make any lady feel like a superstar. This was inspired by Hitchcock’s film, To Catch a Thief.
Speaking of a (Disney) princess, there is a nod to one of the cinema world’s most recognized and loved princesses of all: Cinderella. The pumpkin ring in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white and rose gold, aluminium and titanium is set with spessartites (13.64 cts), tsavorites (3.23 cts) and diamonds (0.49 ct). The humble pumpkin hides a secret, the delicate glass (diamond) slipper is nestled safely inside.
Another story that has been told in both animation and live-action has served as an inspiration here too. This dazzling bracelet in Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold set with white diamonds (100.08 cts), black diamonds (1.39 ct) and pink diamonds as well as cabochon-cut sapphires is a plethora of diamonds, but when you look closely, you’ll see the spotted puppies there too. The blue eyes on the pups are a cheeky touch.
Time to pay attention
No collection from Chopard is complete with out a timepiece or two, and this jewellery watch is perfectly designed with Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white gold, entirely set with diamonds (41.84 cts) and emeralds (23.89 cts). The diamonds and emeralds are set in a series of flowers, making it seem like you have a corsage on your wrist. Did inspiration come from the Emerald City, perhaps? Dorothy would have approved.
For a sweeter timepiece, this jewellery watch is the one to choose, made of Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat white ethical gold, entirely set with diamonds (27.21 cts) and rubies (8.40 cts). The hearts on the case and the dial are vibrant and lovely. The blue hands are a nice touch too.
These are just a few of the amazing pieces that Chopard created for this years Cannes Film festival. If you want to further your obsession, head to the Chopard website for more luxury and glamor.
