Exploring the Cosmos: OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch with Striking White Lacquered Dial

OMEGA's Latest Edition Pays Homage to Space Exploration and Heritage

OMEGA introduces the latest iteration of its iconic chronograph, the Speedmaster Moonwatch, featuring a captivating lacquered white dial inspired by space exploration and the collection’s renowned heritage. The focal point of this celestial timepiece is its rare white dial, a departure from the traditional black, drawing inspiration from astronaut spacesuits and the historical ALASKA I prototype.

Moonwatch lovers have been anticipating this release since November 2023, when the watch debuted on the wrist of OMEGA brand ambassador Daniel Craig at the Planet OMEGA Exhibition in New York. The design has now been officially disclosed, and the watch is ready to be released, guaranteeing a one-of-a-kind and collectible addition to the legendary Moonwatch line.

The inspiration behind the white dial is rooted in the colors of astronaut spacesuits, particularly those worn during extravehicular activities (EVA) such as spacewalks. The white dial, adorned with black detailing and new applied indexes, showcases a glossy lacquered finish—a first for the Moonwatch’s step dial. Adding a touch of boldness, the Speedmaster name is highlighted in red, mirroring the red lines on astronaut suits since Apollo 13 to signify the commander’s rank.

The white dial also pays reference to OMEGA’s historic ALASKA I prototype, which was developed in 1969 as part of a covert NASA initiative to produce the ideal space watch. The white dial pays homage to the protective red case of the original ALASKA I watch, which is well-known for its high thermal reflection coefficient.

Beyond its distinctive dial, OMEGA has carefully crafted the 42 mm stainless steel timepiece, presented on a vintage-inspired bracelet with polished and brushed detailing. Two alternative versions are also available, featuring a black micro-perforated leather strap with red and white stitching or an anti-bacterial rubber strap with a moon surface pattern for enhanced comfort and aesthetics.

For aficionados of the Moonwatch, each timepiece boasts a black anodized aluminum bezel with the renowned “Dot over Ninety” on the tachymeter scale. Under the hood, the watch is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, the latest iteration of the legendary Calibre 321 trusted by astronauts during moon missions.

OMEGA’s Speedmaster Moonwatch, with its white lacquered dial, is a stunning blend of space-inspired design and historical significance. This limited-edition clock allows enthusiasts to possess a piece of space exploration history, with its distinctive features and superb craftsmanship assuring its place among the most iconic chronographs in horological history.
