John Mayer Designs the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition

Audemars Piguet unveils a limited edition Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar designed with musician John Mayer.

Audemars Piguet’s partnership with John Mayer exemplifies the brand’s dedication to fostering creative dialogues. Mayer, a longtime friend of the brand, brings his discerning eye and passion for intricate design to the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. The result is a masterpiece that seamlessly blends the timeless elegance of the perpetual calendar with the contemporary spirit of the Royal Oak.

The “John Mayer” Limited Edition boasts a mesmerizing “Crystal Sky” dial, a testament to Mayer’s vision. Developed using a new scintillating pattern by Audemars Piguet’s artisans, the brass dial plate features an embossed motif of irregular shapes resembling crystals. This intricate detail creates a captivating depth and brilliance, reminiscent of a starlit night sky.

“My favourite watches have dials that you can stare endlessly at,” says Mayer. “The ‘Crystal Sky’ dial offers a true sense of nature, a powerful combination of technical prowess and aesthetic design.”

The “Crystal Sky” dial shimmers in a deep blue hue achieved using Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD). This technique not only preserves the pattern’s depth but also maximizes the play of light. The textured dial is complemented by subdials in a matching blue, displaying the day, month, leap year, and date. For enhanced legibility, Mayer implemented subtle modifications to the calendar display. The “31” on the date subdial and the week indicator are presented in a lighter blue, ensuring effortless reading.

The 18-carat white gold case and bracelet showcase the meticulous craftsmanship of Audemars Piguet. The Manufacture’s signature alternation of satin brushing and polished chamfers adorns the surfaces, creating a captivating interplay of light. Framing the exquisite dial is a white gold bezel, engraved with “Royal Oak Quantieme Perpetuel” and “Limited Edition of 200 Pieces,” signifying its exclusivity.

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition marks the final chapter for the selfwinding Calibre 5134. Introduced in 1978 during the quartz crisis, this groundbreaking movement defied expectations by becoming the thinnest selfwinding perpetual calendar wristwatch of its time. Calibre 5134, housed within the 41 mm white gold case, offers exceptional functionality. It automatically adjusts for leap years and boasts a 40-hour power reserve. The sapphire caseback reveals the beautifully decorated movement, a testament to Audemars Piguet’s dedication to watchmaking excellence.

John Mayer aptly concludes, “The perpetual calendar is the ultimate complication, and Calibre 5134 will go down in history for reviving interest in this classic function.”

Owning a piece of watchmaking history, imbued with the creative vision of John Mayer, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition is a true masterpiece for discerning collectors.
