The Dance of Time: “La Danse du Temps” Unveiled at SIAR Trade Show

Pierre and Jean-Claude Biver Craft a Horological Masterpiece Inspired by Mexican Tradition

At the occasion of the SIAR Trade Show in Mexico, watchmaking luminaries Pierre and Jean-Claude Biver unveiled a horological masterpiece, “La Danse du Temps” (The Dance of Time), paying homage to the rich tapestry of Mexican tradition. Collaborating with renowned Mexican artist Joel Niño, the Bivers are set to dazzle horology enthusiasts at the Salon Internacional de Alta Relojería (SIAR) in Mexico City from October 17 to 19, 2023.

Father and son, Pierre and Jean-Claude Biver, made waves last March with the release of their inaugural timepiece—a minute repeater, carillon, tourbillon, bedecked with stone dials. A remarkable debut, it set the stage for their latest creation to take center stage at SIAR.

The Carillon Tourbillon, now resplendent in rose gold and adorned with an onyx dial, is the star of the show at SIAR. This work of art features sandblasted motifs, an homage to the distinctive Mexican “papel picado,” as well as hand-engraved rose gold appliques with the unmistakable calaveras, inspired by Diego Rivera’s renowned catrina.

The Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, a cherished tradition, embraces a unique perspective on life, death, and the afterlife. It focuses on the positive aspects of these concepts, often depicting skeletons with smiles and engaged in joyful activities. “La Danse du Temps” captures this spirit beautifully, with a dancing couple on the dial symbolizing eternal love.

The Day of the Dead is also a rite that values recollection above oblivion. According to Jean-Claude Biver, the sophisticated mechanism of this clock, with its resonating carillon, represents mastery of the unseen and unshakable dedication to horological traditions. It brings the watch to life, much to how the Day of the Dead keeps Mexican traditions and ancestor spirits alive.

Pierre and Jean-Claude Biver’s creation, “La Danse du Temps,” is a beautiful blend of horological history with Mexican heritage. This one-of-a-kind watch bears witness to their commitment to preserving cultural legacies and encapsulating the beauty of time in every tick of the clock.

“La Danse du Temps” is not just a watch; it’s a manifestation of profound cultural reverence and exquisite craftsmanship. Its presence at SIAR embodies the essence of time, life, and celebration, forging a connection between two worlds, both rich in tradition, in an exquisite dance of artistry and precision.
