SailGP, a leading sailing championship sponsored by Rolex, represents the current and future of sailing by promoting innovation, transformation, and top-level competition. In the recent Mubadala SailGP Season 3 Grand Final in San Francisco, the Australia SailGP Team won its third consecutive title, finishing just ahead of New Zealand and Great Britain in a closely contested race. Rolex’s involvement in yachting extends back 65 years and is based on a shared pursuit of excellence, technical development, and success at the highest level. The F50 foiling catamaran used in SailGP demands not just skill but also physical resilience and athleticism.
The Grand Final featured three exceptional crews led by sailors of impeccable quality, including Olympic gold medalists and America’s Cup winners. Heading into the event, Australia and New Zealand had already secured their places in the final, while Great Britain needed to do something special to make the cut. The pressure was on, but the British team responded with two second places and a first place on the first day of racing. Despite a strong challenge from the French team, Australia ultimately emerged victorious, winning four of the 11 events in the Season 3 championship.
Australia’s success is no accident, and the team is already looking ahead to Season 4, which begins in just over a month. For SailGP competitors, the challenge is to find new ways to beat their rivals and improve as a team. The Rolex United States Sail Grand Prix in Chicago at Navy Pier from June 16-17, 2023, will kick off the next season of this exciting and innovative sailing championship.
