A Wonderful Expression of Love

A wonderful creation from Girard-Perregaux, the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges Ruby Heart is a perfect expression of love.

The season of love outlasts any one day. For proof positive, look no further than the Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges Ruby Heart. Love is indeed in the air, and on the wrist. While some stories stretch the imagination to build a good story, other stories are built on love itself.

Take the story of the brand Girard-Perregaux. It is not merely the collaboration of two people or two names, it is the born out of love. Constant Girard met Marie Perregaux, fell in love, and got married in the 1850s. Aside from starting their family, they also started their brand, Girard-Perregaux. Constant brought experience from the Girard & Co. firm, while Marie brought the family’s history as watchmakers, and together, they built timepieces that continue to draw out our emotions.

In 1889, the brand created a tourbillon pocketwatch with three gold bridges. The interesting part is that the bridges were treated as aesthetic elements, not just mechanical ones. Was it the couple’s love-blinded eyes that saw beauty where others saw function? Through the years, the Three Gold Bridges have become a very important part of the brand.

The gold bridges of this tourbillon are now enhanced with, quite fittingly for the season of love, a ruby heart. Not a ruby-shaped heart, mind you, but a ruby heart from which the dial is carved. The Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges Ruby Heart is a beautiful piece of artistry. The delicate dial, in different hues of red, is eye-catching and elegant. As Patrick Pruniaux, Girard-Perregaux CEO explains, “… we looked to our past and were inspired by the romance between Constant Gerard and Marie Perregaux. We chose to combine a tourbillon, a highly desirable complication, with ruby heart and other precious stones. In my opinion, the resultant timepiece is a wonderful expression of love.”

We couldn’t agree more. The pink gold case is 38mm in diameter and just 11.35mm in height, and there are 56 brilliant-cut diamonds and 18 brilliant-cut rubies on the bezel and lugs. The ruby heart dial is partnered with the three gold bridges that have been reshaped. The hand-finishing and hand-polishing is evident care and dedication given to each creation. The dauphine-type hour and minute hands add to the over-all delicate look of the watch. The tourbillon cage has the beautiful 3 bridges and a total of 79 components. The red alligator strap with a folding buckle and 18 diamonds completes the look of this beautiful watch. The placement of the rubies on the bezel seems to connect the dial with the strap for a little added elegance. The watch has a self-winding mechanical movement, with 283 components and 31 jewels. It features the tourbillon, hours, minutes, and small seconds.

This perfect expression of love is limited to just three pieces. The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges Ruby Heart is available at authorized retailers.
