A Surreal And Horologically-Driven Space Voyage Through The Universe Of Gucci

Drawing inspiration from the golden era of space exploration and a deep-rooted desire for exploration, Gucci High Watchmaking has launched a collection of exceptional timepieces that uniquely embody the Gucci aesthetic while mapping and tracking time. The novelties are divided into five distinctive collections and boast features such as tourbillons, moonphase movements, and a novel perpetual calendar. These watches showcase the brand’s precious heritage, as well as its contemporary savoir-faire, combining expertise and excellence in High Watchmaking with the House’s iconic codes, avant-garde artistry, and the most exceptional stones.

G-Timeless Planetarium
The G-Timeless Planetarium collection welcomes four vibrant designs, all of which are centered around the Dancing Hours Flying Tourbillon, GGC.1976.DS. The tourbillon is aptly named after the Orion Nebula NGC 1976, which is one of the brightest nebulas in our galaxy and is visible to the naked eye. The tourbillon is positioned prominently on the dial, featuring a diamond-studded star. The crown activates a start-and-stop function that sets in motion the rotation of 12 precious stones. Each stone spins on itself in 9 seconds and orbits clockwise around the dial in 90 seconds.

In 2023, the collection is expanding to include two lunar-themed designs. One watch is adorned with 12 Ethiopian opals, which effervesce against a translucent blue backdrop. The second watch features a dreamy pastel combination of topaz, peridot, amethyst, and Ethiopian opals. Another design is inspired by an otherworldly sunset, featuring contrasting red gems like rubies, fire opals, pink tourmaline, and mandarin garnet. Finally, the brightest addition is a star-themed watch with four different types of stars, each studded with diamonds, that together encircle the central tourbillon star in a luminous explosion of light.

G-Timeless Dancing Bees
The G-Timeless Dancing Bees collection pays homage to the bee motif, a symbol of life and nature that transcends boundaries. The watch features 12 golden bees that tremble on the dial, creating a hypnotic effect that shimmers with every movement of the wrist. For 2023, the collection introduces two exceptional stone dials that celebrate the beauty of our planet. The first watch boasts an intense turquoise dial reminiscent of the greenish and deep blue waters of the oceans as seen from space, as captured in famous photographs taken during spaceflights to the moon. The second watch captures the lush, verdant lands with a vibrant pistachio green opal dial, crafted with Gucci’s exquisite stone marquetry savoir-faire. The delicate stones are meticulously polished to a thickness of only 0.45mm before being cut into small, individual rectangles and carefully laid on a mother-of-pearl plate that is just 0.15mm thick. The craftsmanship of the dial is matched by the extreme precision and sophistication of the accompanying star-studded tourbillon, which is situated within a diamond-set crescent at 12 o’clock.

G-Timeless Moonlight
In 2023, Gucci introduces the made-to-order G-Timeless Moonlight, where clients can personalize their watch with their specific place, time, and date of birth. The moonphase calibre GGV838.MP serves as the base for this unique timepiece, with six gemstones reflecting the astral map, linked to zodiac signs and the planets’ position during the client’s birth. Six diamonds are alternately set on a rotating rehaut, which spins randomly when the crown at 2 o’clock is activated, along with the planets and gemstones. The watch features an internal ring that can be etched with up to five personal letters or characters, an oscillating weight displaying the client’s personal constellation, and a customizable alligator strap. The deep blue aventurine glass dial, layered over a thin mother-of-pearl disc, adds to the watch’s mystery and magic.

The layered dial technique is also present in two additional designs that showcase deep, intense tones, further highlighting the interplay between the planets in our galaxy. The first design features a shimmering mother-of-pearl dial treated with an electric purple-blue lacquer, bringing out the fire in a multicoloured opal moonphase disc. The second design is more iridescent, with a sliver of green aventurine glass set on a thin mother-of-pearl base. The green opal moonphase disc below creates a purple-green effect, which contrasts with the glass above.

Gucci 25H
The new GUCCI 25H Skeleton Tourbillon with coloured bridges and matching rubber straps is a striking timepiece with its tinted components, including an orange platine, pink flying tourbillon cage, purple barrel bridge, and green minutery bridges. The electric blue winding stem can be personalised with up to eight digits on each of its four sides, and the colours are inspired by the rich hues of the geological map of the moon. The watch is powered by the GG727.25.PC calibre, which displays the time alongside days, months, years and moonphase, and has a thickness of just 9.7mm.

In addition, the GUCCI 25H with the perpetual calendar complication is a stylish watch that accurately displays days, months, years and moonphase, and won’t need adjusting until the year 2100. The watch features a horizontal pattern on the dial and comes in three models with gold and steel finishes, with either a five-link bracelet or alligator strap designed for maximum comfort and fit.

Grip
In 2019, the Grip design was introduced and quickly gained a following for its innovative and distinct combination of 1970s skateboarding culture and sleek, modern design. Now, in Gucci High Watchmaking, the Grip features a jumping hour mechanism that offers a unique and unconventional way of reading time – in the signature Gucci style. Originally created in the 1920s with a focus on precision, the jumping hour mechanism stores energy for 59 minutes before making a “jump” to the next hour on the dot. For 2023, the Grip has been enhanced with vintage-inspired hard stones – either brick red jasper or chrysoprase – set in 18kt pink gold and paired with matching brick red or mint green display discs and alligator straps. With its playful yet retro style, this is Gucci’s sophisticated and refined timepiece with a distinctive “grip”.
