The Serpenti motif from Bvlgari is one of its most iconic design aesthetics ever launched. The serpent-inspired line spans decades, having initially been introduced in the 1940s, and it spans collections, including jewellery, horology, and ladies accessories. The sleek snake allows varied interpretation from the masterful artists of Bulgari. In 2017, Bulgari presented the “Serpenti Through the Eyes Of” series, partnering with different creative minds to reinterpret the beloved Serpenti.
New York Fashion Week in September 2019 is the perfect opportunity to present the latest collaborative efforts, this time with Alexander Wang. Mireia Lopez Montoya, Bvlgari Accessory Unit Managing Director, expressed excitement over the collaboration, saying, ““To team up with a personality like Alexander Wang for such a powerful collaboration is an exciting challenge for Bvlgari. Serpenti is an icon that has been and continues to be reimagined: Wang’s fresh vision has brought a new urban chic attitude to our unstoppable icon of glamour.”
Alexander Wang brings a new perspective to the iconic line. He is known for his reflection on contrasts and the sense of ease evident in his designs. He has chosen to take the everyday item and elevate it to luxury status. As the man himself explains, “When Bvlgari approached me to collaborate, I knew I wanted to create something that focused on the everyday overlooked items when purchasing luxury goods and transform it into something desirable for a global consumer of all ages.” His passion for perpetual evolution is the perfect foil for the limited edition handbag collection of the Serpenti Forever Bag.
The capsule collection features six styles, some traditional and some innovative, each one an expression of transformation. The collection uses different materials and sizes, with a color palette of the classic black or white, the playful yet elegant mint green, and lush python skin and shiny lizard.
The Belt Bag features two serpent closures for double the elegance. It also has two straps and a handle, all of which are detachable, allowing for the bag to be worn around the waist, across the body, over the shoulder. This bag alone speaks of the ‘reinvention’ the Serpenti line is known for.
The Duette bag has a double flap which is edgy yet functional. That second pocket is practical, indeed, just the right size for a key or mints.
The Triplette shoulder bag has, as expected, three flaps. It also has the new snakehead closure designed by Alexander Wang – three serpents, thrice as nice.
The Shopping tote is the purest example of the everyday-becomes-elegant concept. The modest yet hardworking shopping bag is reinvented and elevated to icon status. The clean and functional design comes in three sizes, each one with a precious snakebite detail.
The Minaudière is an elegant reminder of Bulgari’s DNA as a jeweller. The structured shape is reminiscent of a jewellery box and the attached bracelet is in the classic tubogas style. This bag is perfect for a formal evening, specially when partnered with Bvlgari jewellery.
The Two-in-One satchel closes out this capsule collection quite nicely, with a more relaxed fashion. The satchel shaped handbag comes with a drawstring dustcover in leather. The bag has a vintage-inspired serpent head flap closure.
The entire capsule collection is a wonderful reinterpretation of the iconic Serpenti spirit. Bold, yet elegant. Modern, yet classic-inspired. Serpenti Through the Eyes of Alexander Wang will launch at New York Fashion Week 2019, and the campaign stars Hailey Bieber.
