The Rolex Series finale took place at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Rolex Testimonee John Rahm claimed the top prize.
At the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, John Rahm was crowned champion. The win of the 2017 DP World Tour Championship, which was the culmination of the Race to Dubai and part of the inaugural Rolex Series. This was the third win for Rahm’s professional career.
Rahm commenced his final round in second place. His round totals of 69, 68, 65 and 67 made his tally for the tournament 19 under par. Rahm had a pretty good week, considering that he also was awarded the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. In this, Rahm was in fine company, as he joined fellow Rolex Testimonees Jose Maria Olazabal (1986), Colin Montgomerie (1988), Thomas Bjørn (1996), Paul Casey (2001), Martin Kaymer (2007) and Brooks Koepka (2014).
Naturally, people wanted to know how he felt about being the DP World Tour Champion. Fortunately, Rahm had an answer prepared. “It’s a very special feeling. What I’ve done this year, especially on the European Tour, to actually be a Rolex Series champion, and now two-time Rolex Series champion and winner of the DP World Tour Championship – it’s something unbelievable.”
Rahm has a bright future ahead of him, as well. The 23-year-old’s DP World Tour Championship will certainly make him likely to be in the 2018 European Ryder Cup Team. That will be happening in Paris, at Le Golf National, in September of 2018. The team will be captained by Thomas Bjœrn, who is also a Rolex Testimonee. It’s looking like Rolex will be in a great place when the teams roll out in September, so keep an eye on the ball.
