The new NOMOS Glashütte collection, conveniently named At Work, is a whole selection of automatic wristwatches for daily wear at the office. There are 14 new pieces, from four different pre-existing NOMOS Glashütte lines. There are members from Metro, Tangente, Orion, and Tetra. Now, although these pieces come from multiple lines, the At Work collection has a number of unifying elements within it.
The At Work watches are somewhat larger than the brand’s previous watches tend to be, sizing in at 39mm in diameter. (Most previous NOMOS Glashütte watches were around 36mm.) The square-cased Tetra watch is even larger, 46mm from corner to corner.
Each of the four families of watches gets a silvered dial, a dark blue dial (called Nachtblau), and a third option, a new finish called Silvercut. The Silvercut watches are metallic, with a horizontal brushed surface. Not only do I like the Silvercut look, I think this was the perfect place to bring it in, because the dial looks like the fabric of a very-subtly-patterned white-on-white-striped shirt.
All the watches are Neomatik models and very slim, being powered by the ultra-thin automatic DUW 3001 caliber. An interesting point here: the Neomatik watches up until this point have all been smaller, with the 35mm or 36mm diameter. So the watch caliber has stayed the same, but the case size has gone up. You can actually see this more clearly on the back, where the watch caliber is seen with a generously wide amount of space around it.
Also, none of the At Work line has a date display; it’s just hours, minutes and small seconds. Personally, I think the one extra feature a work watch could have used is a date window. But I can’t deny that I like the look as it is: the At Work dials are clean and interesting without looking busy, so I’ll happily embrace their dateless lifestyle. Besides, you know I don’t approve of people who try to look busy at work.
Four lines getting three watches each makes 12 new timepieces, but there’s a couple more to talk about still. The round-cased Orion line gets a Weiss look, a grained silver dial with steel hour markers and steel hands. This gives the Weiss Orion a monochromatic look, which is a rather nice option. And last, there is a solid gold Metro model. The rose gold shows very well in the classic NOMOS Glashütte lines, making the gold Metro a real part of the At Work collection while still giving it a little something extra.
These new NOMOS Glashütte At Work watches are a great looking addition to the brand, and with all 14 coming in at once, it feels like a flood of presents. There are literally too many At Work watches to go through them all individually here, but believe me, that’s a pleasant task when you get around to it. If you’ve been planning to buy a NOMOS Glashütte, your decision just got a little harder, but a lot more fun. And if you WEREN’T planning on it… well, maybe you are now.
