Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum: An Artistic Partnership Flourishes

Unveiling a Multifaceted Collaboration between Two Iconic Institutions

Vacheron Constantin, since its establishment in 1755, has always emphasized arts and culture. The partnership with the Louvre Museum, starting in 2019, celebrates beauty and heritage preservation.

In December 2020, Vacheron Constantin auctioned a unique Les Cabinotiers watch to support the Louvre’s solidarity projects. The watch, titled “Homage to Pierre Paul Rubens, La lutte pour l’étendard de la Bataille d’Anghiari,” features an enamel dial replicating Rubens’ drawing.

The collaboration continued in 2021 with videos showcasing the art studios of both institutions. In 2022, four watches inspired by the Louvre’s antique collections were launched: Métiers d’Art – Tribute to Great Civilisations. In 2023, a new Les Cabinotiers offer will allow clients to choose a work of art from the Louvre to be reproduced on their watch’s enamel dial.

Vacheron Constantin’s partnership with the Louvre reflects their shared respect for history, culture, and heritage. The company’s commitment aligns with the archiving, conservation, and restoration of heritage.

The 2020 “Bid for the Louvre” auction supported educational workshops at the museum. The winning bidder received a bespoke Les Cabinotiers watch with a personalized enamel reproduction of a Louvre artwork, a private museum tour, and access to the Cabinet des Dessins. The chosen artwork, “La lutte pour l’étendard de la Bataille d’Anghiari” by Rubens, holds historical significance and is associated with Leonardo da Vinci’s unfinished masterpiece.

Through infrared reflectography, traces of a drawing attributed to an anonymous artist copying Leonardo’s cartoon for the Battle of Anghiari were discovered under Rubens’ interventions on the Louvre sheet.

Vacheron Constantin’s Les Cabinotiers watch, titled “Homage to Pierre Paul Rubens, La lutte pour l’étendard de la Bataille d’Anghiari,” showcases the mastery of the Métiers d’Art workshop. The watch incorporates Geneva miniature painting and grisaille enamel techniques, adding depth and movement to the horse’s mane. The dial’s intricate details, reproduced using about 20 shades of brown, were achieved through multiple firings at precise temperatures.

The watch features Vacheron Constantin’s in-house Calibre 2460 SC and an engraved oscillating weight depicting the Louvre’s facade. The 18K 5N pink gold caseback is engraved with 17th-century “Cerca Trova” calligraphy.

Continuing their partnership, Vacheron Constantin now offers clients an experiential opportunity called “Masterpiece on your wrist.” Clients can choose an artwork from the Louvre’s collection to be reproduced on a bespoke watch dial. This offer includes a private tour of the Louvre and meetings with the museum’s experts and Vacheron Constantin’s master artisans.

This initiative reflects the Maison’s commitment to the Cabinotiers tradition and the pursuit of craftsmanship since its establishment in 1755.
