Bet On Black

TUDOR created a one-off watch for the Only Watch biennial charity auction.

From the ashes, hope will rise. In the case of the Only Watch project, from an unexpected diagnosis, a heart-warming event has risen. Luc Pettavino is the Founder and organizer of Only Watch. The event is meant to draw focus – and funds – to support finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe form of degenerative neuromuscular disease. An unexplained DNA mutation causes scarcity in the protein dystrophin, which is essential to muscles.

The noble cause is supported by royalty, no less. As HSH Prince Albert of Monaco says, “With the money raised together with Only Watch in the past decade, we have changed the face of research on this matter… We are getting closer to changing the lives of thousands of children, teenagers and young adults around the world.  We might not all be researchers, but I think we all have collectively the power to change things for generations to come. I am very honored and happy to support this project since the beginning, as I know many of you have, and I would like to thank you form the bottom of my heart.”

Conceptualized in 2005, the Only Watch event has proceeded successfully through the partnership with various luxury watch brands. A simple request to contribute a watch has taken on mammoth proportions with horologists eager to create a one-off timepiece. Sometimes it is a change in color, other times it is a change in the metal used. Lately there have been 50 watches contributed to this cause, and among them is the Black Bay Ceramic One watch from TUDOR.

The TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic One watch is TUDOR’s third contribution to Only Watch. TUDOR has a long history of creating cutting edge timepieces. The Black Bay Ceramic One combines design, color, and materials to keep the brand aesthetic complete. The piece offered to Only Watch is in matte black ceramic, titanium, and stainless case. Powered by a high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5602 and a black PVD-coated rotor, the watch is sporty and, well, a little intimidating. The depth of the black is all-consuming and really fantastic. TUDOR never releases one-offs, except for the Only Watch. The TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic One is truly the Only One.
