Tantalum-Armored Perpetual Calendar

The H. Moser & Cie. perpetual calendar is widely acknowledged as the most readable and convenient to adjust in the market. It can be set forward or backward at any time of the day. In 2023, H. Moser & Cie. presents this renowned model with a tantalum case, which is the brand’s first use of this rare and prestigious metal. The Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Tantalum Blue Enamel showcases this unique material in shades of anthracite and blue, enhanced by an ancestral enamelling technique, which features vivid colours and a contemporary hammered texture.

Tantalum, a highly dense and exceptionally strong metal, was discovered in 1802 by Anders Gustav Ekeberg. It is anti-corrosive, does not react with most chemicals or dissolve in acid, and has both hard and ductile properties. With a melting point of around 3000 °C, it requires advanced metallurgical expertise to machine. Its dark grey colour is enhanced by bluish reflections and does not tarnish. H. Moser & Cie. CEO Edouard Meylan explains that introducing tantalum was a personal choice, as his first Haute Horology watch was made of tantalum. It took over two years of testing before H. Moser & Cie. could polish the surfaces of their tantalum case, a feat that few have accomplished.

The iconic perpetual calendar by H. Moser & Cie. is renowned for its complex movement and unrivalled ease of use. The Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Tantalum Blue Enamel features a minimalist design with only indices at 12 and 6 o’clock, showcasing the full beauty of the “Grand Feu” enamel dial. The dial is created by engraving a pattern onto a gold base, applying four different colour pigments to achieve an ombré effect, and firing it twelve times to create the signature H. Moser & Cie. fumé effect. The small hand indicates the months, while a large date window at 3 o’clock with the “Flash Calendar” function, and a power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock displaying seven days of autonomy complete the piece. The time and date can be easily set using the crown at any time of the day.

H. Moser & Cie. has transformed the perpetual calendar into a watch that is simple to operate even for a child, revolutionising the complication designed for the most discerning of collectors. The resulting aesthetic is uniquely recognizable, demonstrating that true luxury is about identity, even without explicit markers. The Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Tantalum Blue Enamel is a unique interpretation of Haute Horlogerie by H. Moser & Cie.
