The 13th Governors Awards took place on 19 November 2022 in Los Angeles. The Governors Awards honour the great names of cinema for their entire body of work. As such, the awards capture the spirit of the partnership between Rolex and cinema by rewarding individuals with long careers, who have shown constant dedication to their artistic visions and have enduring bodies of work. They celebrate outstanding humanitarian efforts and recognize contributions to the art of filmmaking.

MICHAEL J. FOX, EUZHAN PALCY, DIANE WARREN AND PETER WEIR RECOGNIZED AT THE 13TH GOVERNORS AWARDS IN NOVEMBER 2022

THE JEAN HERSHOLT HUMANITARIAN AWARD FOR MICHAEL J. FOX
The actor received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which recognizes a personality in film who has set an example through their work in support of a humanitarian cause. The unforgettable actor from Back to the Future, The Frighteners and the television series Spin City was celebrated for his commitment to the fight against Parkinson’s disease. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research is the world’s largest research center for Parkinson’s, a disease with which the actor himself was diagnosed.

PIONEERING DIRECTOR EUZHAN PALCY RECEIVES AN HONORARY AWARD
The first black female filmmaker to helm a film for a major Hollywood studio, the Martinican director, writer and producer first achieved success in 1983 with her debut feature film, Sugar Cane Alley. In 1989, she gained worldwide acclaim as the director of A Dry White Season. For this film, Palcy directed Marlon Brando in a role that earned him his last Oscar® nomination.

AN HONORARY AWARD FOR DIANE WARREN, HOLLYWOOD’S LEADING MUSICIAN
She is one of the most prolific composers in American film. The original songs she has written for more than one hundred films have earned her thirteen Oscar® nominations. Diane Warren has worked with artists as diverse as Beyoncé, Cher, Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Alice Cooper and Aerosmith.

PETER WEIR RECEIVED AN HONORARY AWARD IN CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFELONG CAREER
An emblematic figure of the Australian New Wave in the 1970s, Peter Weir has become a Hollywood legend with his world-renown filmography, which has earned him six Oscar® nominations. Witness, The Year of Living Dangerously, Green Card, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show and Master and Commander have won numerous awards around the world.

Producer Jennifer Fox returned to produce the Governors Awards ceremony for the fourth time.
