The first race of the 2022 Formula 1® season kicked off at the Bahrain International Circuit last March 20. It was a very interesting race, indeed, as the new regulations could result in some surprises this season. But despite the changes in regulations of the sport, one thing has remained steady and true, and that is Rolex entering its tenth consecutive year as the sport’s Official Timepiece. This year, the Rolex Pit Lane Clock will accompany Formula 1® at races across five continents and the series will debut a condensed three-day format at each leg.
The races in Australia, Canada, Singapore, and Japan are back on their regular schedules. In May, however, an inaugural race will be held in Miami, Florida, featuring a 5.41 kilometre street circuit with 19 turns. The championship will conclude, once again, at the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX 2022 from November 18-20.
Rolex has a long-standing history with motorsports. It can be dated as far back as the 1930s, when Sir Malcolm Campbell became the first driver to break the 300 mph (483 kph) barrier. From that day forward, Rolex maintained its presence in motor racing, growing steadily as it supports events like the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Its relationship with the world of motor racing is a tight one, as both disciplines dedicate their expertise to achieve excellence and innovation. On Rolex’s tenth year as the Official Timepiece of Formula 1®, Rolex Testimonee and FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart said: “Since the beginning, Rolex and Formula 1 have embodied ground-breaking technology, precision and ingenuity at every level, while having a mutual appreciation for magnificent craftsmanship, style and, ultimately, the importance of timing. Nurturing long-term relationships is fundamental to Rolex, whether through associations with events or sporting legends.”
