Panerai and BRABUS Join Forces

The first-ever skeletonized automatic movement.

The high-end Italian watch brand unites with a German luxury engineering brand to form a new partnership. Their collaboration will bring together the brands’ design DNA and identities in a series of exclusive watch products and expand their reach and visibility in the worlds of watchmaking and boating.

Panerai and BRABUS both share a passion for and connection to the marine environment. It is quite popular that the watch brand developed diving watches for the Italian navy. BRABUS, on the other hand, is well known for building luxury dayboats. Each of these brands bring decades of experience to the table. Now they collaborate to create innovative products that are suitable for life on the seas.

The first result of this creative partnership is the Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Black Ops Edition (PAM1240), a limited edition of 100 pieces. This piece also happens to be the first-ever Panerai watch with a skeleton automatic calibre.

The P.4001/s features a one piece off-centered oscillating weight that allows for bi-directional winding, where two spring barrels efficiently wind up as the watch is worn on the wrist. The size of the tungsten rotor allows the watch to be much thinner and lighter. The new movement was developed starting from the P.4000 calibre and entirely designed and created at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchatel.

The Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Black Ops Edition took three years to develop. This resulted in features like a patented polarised date display, allowing a view of the date indication only through the opening at 3 o’clock. This 47mm watch also features a unidirectional rotating bezel for the calculation of the immersion time, a GMT function, AM/PM indicator, and a three-day power reserve whose sapphire crystal disk indicator is filled in with Super-LumiNova™.

“When we speak about partnership, it’s not just about a logo, it extends to the highest levels and smallest details. We offer each other complementary skill sets and synergies in terms of products, sales and key markets,” said Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué.

Constantin Buschmann, CEO and owner of BRABUS, said: “When put side by side, the similarities in regard to design language and overall character of the Panerai Submersible and the BRABUS Marine line of dayboats are obvious and striking. Both are made to be functional and stylish tools for life in the marine environment and, therefore, this combination just makes sense.”
