IWC Schaffhausen has officially announced they will be fielding their own team and their own car at the 76th Goodwood Members’ Meeting.
IWC Schaffhausen has a long and storied association with motor sports, with their watches often being tied in with that distinguished sport. However, the launch of the team here makes them the first watch brand to compete in classic car races with their own team and car.
The IWC Racing Team will join in selected classic car races using their Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing.” This car has doors reminiscent of a seagull, and was manufactured between the years of 1954 and 1957 by Daimler-Benz. It is a version of the 300 SL race car that is road-ready. The car will be driven alternately by David Coulthard, Lewis Hamilton, Valterri Bottas, Jochen Mass, Maro Engel, and Carmen Jordá. That makes for quite a lineup, and no doubt the IWC Team is going on to do great things with that Gullwing.
The car dates back to the years when IWC Schaffhausen was building the Ingenieur. As a tribute to this special occasion, IWC Schaffhausen will be putting out the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition 76th Members Meeting at Goodwood” watch.
This is a chronograph in classic column-wheel design, and it runs off the IWC-manufactured 69380 watch movement.
This is a chronograph in classic column-wheel design, and it runs off the IWC-manufactured 69380 watch movement. It features a pawl-winding system with a 46-hour power reserve. The 46mm case is made of titanium, for superior strength and lightness. The silver-plated dial has black subdials, black hands coated with luminescent material, and blue chronograph hands, which makes for an interesting collection of contrasts. The watch comes with a black calfskin leather strap, and will be a limited-edition release of only 176 pieces.
