MB&F watches are always eye-catching pieces that are also technical marvels. These watches are not for those who shy away from the limelight or are faint of heart. These watches are standouts, and now MB&F has added a new incarnation to the Legacy Machine FlyingT collection for the ladies.
The Legacy Machine FlyingT was first launched in 2019, and as the brand describes it, is the “first MB&F’s three-dimensional horological art pieces dedicated to women.” The dedication to women is evident in the careful thought given to this watch. They didn’t just slap a coat of pastel paint on it and call it a ladies watch. As Maximilian Büsser says, “I wanted LM FlyingT to possess the epitome of femininity as reflected by the women in my life, particularly my mother. It had to combine supreme elegance with tremendous vitality.”
The tourbillon is given the center profile, and the domed sapphire crystal case showcases it well – a flying tourbillon beating at 2.5Hz (or 18,000vph). A large diamond sits atop the cage and rotates along with the tourbillon. Imagine the light reflecting from the facets as the diamond spins, it is stunning.
The watch is delicate and refined, and was redesigned completely for the feminine mystique. The case itself, both height and diameter, have been reduced from the men’s version to suit a more delicate wrist. The lugs were tapered slimmer and curves were made more prominent. Deep bevels added to enhance the elegance. Special attention was also given to the dial and its components. The hour and minute hands are not stick-straight, but instead have gentle waves to them.
There is beauty in asymmetry and the LM FlyingT is a good example of this. The time display is not front and center in this timepiece, instead it is at the 7 o’clock position, making it easiest for the wearer to see the time. Others may see the watch on her wrist, but only she can easily spot the time. The tourbillon cage is another exploration of asymmetry, with a double-arch upper bridge instead of the symmetrical version on other MB&F creations.
There are many references to choose from, and each one is beautiful. The initial offerings in 2019 were in white gold with diamonds, with the main differences being the dial plate: black lacquer, set with brilliant cut diamonds, or set with baguette cut diamonds. More references were released in 2020, in red gold and platinum, and a lapis lazuli dial plate. For 2021, the LM FlyingT adds a new dial plate in beautiful green malachite. Malachite is a green gemstone that has beautiful striped bands that occur naturally. The color won’t fade over time, so you can be sure your FlyingT will always look vivid as the day you brought this beauty home.
