The Reverso was created in 1931 after a request from gentlemen playing polo. They needed a watch that could survive the intense and powerful game. Jaeger-LeCoultre rose to the challenge by presenting a watch whose dial you could flip, or reverse, to protect it. The watch was the perfect combination of form, function, and style. Jaeger-LeCoultre brings us a new interpretation of their classic Reverso with the 2020 Reverso One (reference No. Q3288560). The Reverso One stays true to the original aesthetic of the watch with the Art Deco design features but is also refreshed with a different color palette. The watch is fresh and modern, classic and elegant. The three gadroons on the upper and lower edges of the watch are there, though this time they have the added glamour of a little bling courtesy of the grain-set diamonds (27 of these precious gems, totally 0.3 carats). The grain setting gives the illusion of the gadroon being made up completely of diamonds. In actuality, there are tiny prongs that hold the diamonds in place.
The deep red wine color is new for 2020, and it is a welcome addition to the Reverso line. The red-wine guilloché lacquered dial is deep and luscious and it plays well against the stainless steel case. The bold color has rich glow achieved with multiple applications of lacquer on the sunray guilloche dial. The white numerals and hands are cool and clear, just like the stainless steel case.
The case dimensions are 40mm by 20mm by 7.9mm, and Jaeger-LeCoultre really makes the most of this real estate. The case is elongated and sleek. The watch has the hours and minutes functions, plus of course the reversing feature. The case back is closed, and you can add special engraving if you wish.
