Roger Dubuis collaborates with the engineers at Pirelli to create a versatile timepiece that is fuelled by adrenaline and crafted with winning motorsport rubber tyres. The latest Roger Dubuis innovation from this exclusive collaboration with Pirelli is the Excalibur Spider Pirelli.
Pirelli has been the official tyre partner of the Formula 1 World Championship since 2011. In this elite motorsport race, the pitstops are as much a point of interest as the race itself. Tyres are changed in just a couple of seconds. Taking inspiration in this, Roger Dubuis and Pirelli presents the newest interpretation of the Excalibur Spider collection.
This world premiere timepiece features interchangeability, from the strap to the crown and bezel – all with a simple click. Not only is this an extremely customisable timepiece, it also features innovative lock technology. The Quick Release System on the strap and crown is now taken to the next level at the bezel, with a precise position alignment that fixes the clock with one click.
When putting things together, three senses tell us that we have accomplished the task: the sense of sight, the sense of touch, and the sense of hearing. Sight: we see the parts align and fall into place. Touch: we feel the click when the parts fit into one another. Sound: we hear the click that reaffirms our other two senses, that the pieces are locked into place.
The Excalibur Spider Pirelli is fitted with a calibre that includes Roger Dubuis’ first automatic skeleton movement, accompanied by the inimitable Roger Dubuis star. It also features a micro-rotor, one reduced to its strict essence at 11 o’clock. The perfect balance of weight to wind the RD820SQ is further achieved through the use of innovative materials, such as DLC Titanium, both lighter and more luxurious than stainless steel.
Of the hundreds of hours spent manufacturing this 45mm timepiece, as much as a third of this time is devoted to the prestigious Poinçon de Genève, with each and every component carefully finished by hand at the Manufacture in Geneva.
The Excalibur Spider Pirelli transforms from full black to a pop of bold color in a click, as it comes with three additional kits in red, white or blue – the iconic Pirelli color codes. Available in a limited run of just 88 kits per colorway. The inner straps are made from race-winning tyres, designed with the recognisable Pirelli Cinturato™ Intermediate pattern.
