Orient Star’s Sports Collection now includes the limited edition Diver 1964 1st Edition model, with only 900 pieces available worldwide. Established in 1951, Orient Star has committed to producing top-quality mechanical watches made in Japan, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge watchmaking technology. This latest limited-edition model pays tribute to the brand’s rich history, replicating the original design of the 1964 Olympia Calendar Diver model, but updated to meet contemporary scuba diver’s watch requirements with 200-metre water resistance in compliance with ISO 6425 standards. The Diver 1964 1st Edition boasts a silver dial, vintage design, and Orient Star’s latest high-performance in-house movement.
As sporty and casual fashion trends have gained popularity among various age groups, diver’s watches and vintage styles have become a global craze. The Diver 1964 1st Edition made its debut in 2021, coinciding with Orient Star’s 70th anniversary, and quickly became a sensation worldwide. The latest version with a silver dial is the newest addition to the collection.
The Diver 1964 1st Edition draws inspiration from the Olympia Calendar Diver, which took several years of development work starting from the early 1960s. The new model replicates the original features, such as a solid stainless steel rotating bezel, three-dimensionally cut indices, an arrow-shaped hand, and sharp lug case shape.
The Olympia Calendar Diver was available in black or silver dials, but the silver version has become extremely rare, with only a few originals remaining. The new model is a reproduction of the silver version. The metallic finish of the silver dial gives the Diver 1964 1st Edition a more formal look, while its contemporary design makes it ideal for sports and daily wear.
The case is made of high-quality SUS316L stainless steel, with a screw-down crown, screw case-back, and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The watch has significantly improved water resistance of up to 200 metres for scuba diving, adhering to the ISO 6425 standards for diver’s watches, a significant upgrade from the original model’s 40 metres. The metal bracelet is also crafted from the same high-quality stainless steel, providing a robust presence and optimum comfort. The trifold clasp includes a push button, security latch, and diver’s extension, making it practical for both sports and urban lifestyles.
The original 1964 model’s hand-wound movement has been replaced with the contemporary automatic movement, an in-house caliber F6N47 that ensures stable high accuracy and a 50-hour power reserve. Another new feature is the power reserve indicator that shows the remaining running time. Although most Orient Star models have a power reserve indicator as standard, it’s uncommon to find this feature on diver’s watches.
