The Sommerso Bronzo was released around mid last year. It featured a bronze case that pays tribute to the early days of deep sea diving. Not only is it highly resistant to sea water, but it also creates a patina over time, whether it be from salt water or the mixture of the wearer’s sweat and the oxygen in the air.
This year, U-BOAT releases the Sommerso Bronzo with a little update: a ceramic bezel. Introducing the U-BOAT Sommerso Bronzo Ceramic Bezel.
Italo Fontana’s imagination and creativity are the driving forces of U-BOAT’s designs. Oftentimes, he mixes and matches materials that give the timepieces a unique character. For this interpretation, he adds a ceramic bezel to the bronze case. Ceramic is widely used in the aerospace industry and boasts a very high heat resistance. The ceramic inlay on the bezel will keep its color intense, unaltered over time as it is quite resistant to long exposures of ultraviolet rays.
The Sommerso Bronzo Ceramic Bezel comes in a 46 mm bronze case that has been naturally aged. As with the previous model, the dial features the hours, minutes, and seconds on central hands. Located at the 4 o’clock position is a 24-hour counter and a date window at 9 o’clock. Inside the case beats a Swiss automatic mechanical movement that has been personalised to U-BOAT specifications. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 44 hours. The back of the watch is also in bronze, treated with special antiqued anti-corrosion treatment, and is sealed with seven screws, making it water resistant to 300 meters. The watch comes with a hand-made and hand-finished dark brown calf leather.
