The best gets better: New 2022 Audi Q5 now in PH

Latest model boasts of IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating, more distinctive design, plenty of tech features

Audi’s bestselling premium SUV has become better and even more attractive with its combination of a sportier design and updated features and technologies. Now available in the Philippines, the 2022 Audi Q5 comes in two variants — the S Line TFSI with a gasoline engine and the diesel-powered S Line TDI.

Along with a sharpened exterior design, the new Audi Q5 boasts of the highest honor from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) — a Top Safety Pick+ award. To receive the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in all six crashworthiness evaluations, and “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention. A model must also be equipped with headlights which the IIHS considers as either “Good” or “Acceptable” across all trims and packages.

The Matrix LED headlamps with new dynamic light design and dynamic turn signals are one of the key elements emphasizing the exterior design of the 2022 Audi Q5. The headlamps’ intelligent, adaptable high beam offers greater safety and convenience without dazzling other road users. Also marking the SUV’s new design are a wider octagonal Singleframe grille, and taller side air intakes structured by trapezoidal insets.

Rear of 2022 Audi Q5 receives a new trim between the light clusters, diffusor insert with a horizontal fin, and an S Line roof spoiler.

Viewed from the side, the latest model has a “lighter” look that is actually matched by a higher ground clearance, thanks to redesigned sill inserts. The SUV’s rear end gets a new trim element between the light clusters, a new diffusor insert with a horizontal fin, and an S Line roof spoiler.

The 2022 Audi Q5 S Line TFSI has a black appearance package, black roof rails and 21-inch wheels in five-twin-spoke module design, while the S Line TDI version has aluminum roof rails and 20-inch with 10-Y-spoke design. Combined, the exterior updates allow both models of the 2022 Audi Q5 to more clearly express power, robustness and safety.

In the cabin of the 2022 Audi Q5, a sculptural trim inlay separates the lower and upper sections of the dashboard, with the focal point formed by the new freestanding MMI touch display. Intuitive technologies fitted to the latest versions are the Audi virtual cockpit plus that provides infotainment and vehicle function displays in high-resolution, full-color graphics; and the MMI navigation plus with MMI touch response, which controls navigation, climate, and various driver-assist functions, including the parking aid plus, via the touchscreen display. Also accessed through the MMI system are controls and display for the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D Sound.

Other premium features which define the 2022 Audi Q5 are leather sport seats in front; three-spoke, sport contour, flat-bottom leather steering wheel with multifunction plus controls; electronic parking brake; push-button engine start/stop; auto-dimming frameless rearview mirror; three-zone climate control system; air quality package; ambient LED interior lighting package; sunshade for the rear windows; and a USB charging interface for passengers in the back. The S Line illuminated aluminum scuff plates further promote a luxury feel in the SUV’s interior.

Powering the 2022 Audi Q5 S Line TFSI is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine producing 265 hp and 370 Nm. The Q5 S Line TDI is equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that outputs 204 hp and 400 Nm. Both gasoline and diesel engines are matched to a seven-speed S-Tronic transmission, which sends power to a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

The 2.0-liter TFSI and TDI engines also feature a mild hybrid system, contributing to their low fuel consumption. A belt-driven starter/generator incorporating a compact lithium-ion battery recuperates braking energy, then stores this in the battery. The mild hybrid system enables the 2022 Audi Q5 to coast with the engine off, and allows for start-stop mode at speeds below 22 km/h, boosting fuel efficiency while also reducing emissions.
