Richard Mille is bringing two watch models to the table and giving women something to ponder: do I want black, or white? Do I want mystery or purity?

These watches are both automatic models, meaning the wearer’s movement actually winds the watch. They have the gentle tonneau shape and a skeletonized automatic movement. The craftsmanship and clean lines that made Richard Mille watches so elegant are still present. Each watch definitely has aspects of desire.

Black Mystery
The first watch is the RM 07-01 Automatic Starry Night. The case and strap are made of Carbon TPT®, which is a high-performance material that is both light and strong. The material has an interesting damascene pattern that adds interest to the very elegant watch. There are 181 diamonds in total on the dial and bezel, the stars in this ‘Starry Night.’ It is interesting to note that the artisans needed special machines with diamond bits to create the red gold prong settings for each diamond on this watch. Carbon TPT® is so hard and resistant that the typical artisan tools simply wouldn’t cut it (see what I did there?). The bracelet is quite light, coming in at a mere 29 grams, again thanks to the Carbon TPT®. The red gold hands and crown are a nice touch too, adding a glint against the dark watch. The Starry Night also has a skeletonized movement, the in-house calibre CRMA2, with hours, minutes, and a variable-geometry movement.

White Purity
The second watch that Richard Mille is offering to the ladies is the RM 037 Automatic, a pristine vision in white ceramic. The white ATZ ceramic has increased rigidity and reduced porosity, and is incredibly resistant to scratches, making it a good choice for a timepiece. As with the Starry Night watch and the Carbon TPT®, this watch and the ATZ ceramic needed special machining and processing tools. Richard Mille is not one to do the easy and quick – they do the complicated and complex, and do it very well. The white ATZ ceramic is also hypoallergenic, making this watch well-suited for those with sensitive skin. This watch also has a first-time combination of white ceramic, mother-of-pearl, and white gold. The different hues of white come together nicely, creating a clean palette. Powered by the in-house calibre CRMA1, this watch has an oversize date window at the 12 o’clock and the function selector at the 4 o’clock. The function options are winding (W), neutral (N), and hand setting (H), easily chosen with a push of a button instead of touching the crown.

The RM 07-01 Automatic Starry Night has a deep dark palette that is very elegant, enhanced by the delicate diamonds. The RM 037 Automatic is a more sporty and active version, clean and pure. Either one would make a smart addition to your collection.
