With Porsche’s all-electric, 4-door sports car Taycan now available locally through Porsche Philippines, initially with the flagship version Taycan Turbo S only, the big question is charging support. Fortunately, Porsche PH got that covered by partnering with Swedish-Swiss multinational tech company ABB. With more than 10 years of experience in working with electric vehicle charging and operating in over 100 countries, ABB will supply the high-powered DC charger that the Taycan Turbo S will use. Delivering up 10 175 kW of power and fitted with a 15-inch touchscreen display interface with a Combined Charging System Type 2 plug, the ABB unit can charge the Taycan from 10% to 80% in about half an hour, good for a 300-kilometer drive. Furthermore, ABB will provide warranty coverage and servicing of the high-output DC charger. To provide an alternative power source, Each Taycan from Porsche Philippines comes with a Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, an AC charger with a 5-inch touchscreen display including smart features such as adjustable current rating, charging history and PIN lock. The charger can be plugged into any household socket, or into an industrial socket for faster charging time—or as quick as nine hours.

With these charging solutions in place, owning a fully electric vehicle becomes no different from owning a combustion engine or hybrid-powered automobile. Unlike these types of vehicles, the Porsche Taycan is a fully electric vehicle that runs solely on electric motors drawing power exclusively from batteries (hybrid vehicles use a combination of electric power and petrol-burning engines) using a pair of permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM).
