Written In Water

Omega’s Seamaster Aqua Terra collection continues to rule by land and by sea.

The ocean is the Seamaster’s home, of course, and the water is its element. But the Aqua Terra is a solid piece of watchmaking no matter where you bring it. This timepiece has always been the ocean’s denizen. Now Omega is bringing the Seamaster Aqua Terra into their Master Chronometer heading, and things are becoming even more exacting.

Omega has set an in-house standard for chronographs that surpasses the requirements laid out by COSC. The Master Chronometer watches of Omega meet the COSC-certification parameters, but goes even further. Omega has achieved this using the guidance and policing of METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. They are responsible for the accuracy of all measuring and testing in Switzerland.

Omega’s Master Chronometers must meet eight incredibly rigorous criteria. They include water resistance (a natural for the Seamaster, unsurprisingly) magnetic resistance, and exacting levels of precision, even at the very edge of their power reserve limits. Now that the Seamaster Aqua Terra is being made to these standards, they will be even more reliable, even more precise.

If the pressures of the modern world continue to become greater, if the waterborne watches we wear are expected to go deeper, then so too the lengths the watchmakers go become more masterful

Precision and reliability are the hallmarks of Omega’s work, but the looks count too. Omega knows how to make the minimal look beautiful, and with this timepiece they have succeeded yet again. The classic simplicity of the Seamaster Aqua Terra Master Chronometer watches belies the intricacies within, and the incredible stresses to which they are subjected, in order to attain that Master Chronometer distinction. If the pressures of the modern world continue to become greater, if the waterborne watches we wear are expected to go deeper, then so too the lengths the watchmakers go become more masterful, in order to achieve greater and greater things. With the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Master Chronometer, we are given a watch designed to excel. It’s not just a timepiece; it’s a reminder that we are all one Earth. Aqua Terra. We are water, we are land.
