Edox celebrates 25 years of F1 racing excellence

Sauber Motorsport AG, commercially known as the Sauber F1 Team, is a Swiss Formula One team founded in 1970 by Peter Sauber, which gained prominence in Le Mans in the late 70s, with Mercedes Benz in Group C racing in the mid 80s, and in the World Sports Car Championship by the late 80s, before finally entering Formula One in 1992.

Contracts signed with Red Bull and Petronas in 1995 assured a solid foundation for the Swiss team to establish itself as a firm fixture in Formula One.  But it wasn’t until the turn of the century, and the birth of the BMW-Sauber era did the Swiss team find success in Formula One

Racing with BMW-Sauber colors until 2009, the BMW Sauber F1 Team notched up 11 podium places in 2008, claimed the first pole position in Bahrain, and boosted their statistics with the first two fastest race laps.  Indeed, the team ended the World Championship in third place with 135 points.

Ending his partnership with BMW, Peter Sauber raced as an independent in Formula One all over again in 2010, Sauber Motorsport AG’s 40th season in motor racing and has enjoyed constant prominence in Formula One since then.

But an F1 racing team is only as successful as its timing partner.  Which is why for the past two years, Swiss watchmaker Edox has been the official timing partner of the Sauber F1 Team.  And to commemorate a quarter of a century of Formula One racing excellence, Edox presents the Chronorally Sauber F1 Team “25th Anniversary” Limited Edition, which celebrates 25 years of the Sauber F1 Team in Formula One.

Limited to only 555 pieces, the Edox Chronorally Sauber F1 Team “25th Anniversary” Limited Edition differentiates itself with livery from the Sauber C36 Formula One racing car.  This means the 48 mm case is forged in race-tough black PVD-treated titanium, making it ultra-tough but lightweight; one of the oversized pushers is finished in gold and is marked with the Sauber logo, while the tricompax dial is flourished in the C36’s electric blue.

Indeed, Sauber-Racing inspired flourishes turbocharges the Edox Chronorally Sauber F1 Team “25th Anniversary” Limited Edition at every turn.  This includes the tachymeter scale on the inner flange that reinforces the F1 pedigree; the official logo “25 Years” also in gold that replaces the usual small seconds counter; the black totalizers designed to look like the dashboard instruments of the C36; as well as the day of the week counter at 12 o’clock that replaces “Sunday” with “RACE.”  Last but not least, the slick blue rubber strap with tire tread motif puts a finishing touch on the official watch of the fourth oldest team competing in Formula One.

The Edox Chronorally Sauber F1 Team “25th Anniversary” Limited Edition is driven by the Ronda 5040-based Edox calibre 38 quartz movement, gold and nickel-plated with extended battery.  And like every other Edox wristwatch, excels in being robust and stylish, while remaining the best value for money anywhere in the market.
