Into the Depths

Ulysse Nardin is recognized as one of the earliest pioneers in watchmaking innovation.

They are more popularly known for their watches that are linked to the seas. They created highly reliable marine chronometers to aid sailors navigate the waters. They are also known for their solidly-built dive watches. This year, they may have outdone themselves with the Diver Deep Dive watch.

The Diver Deep Dive has an incredible water resistance level of 1,000 meters. In other words, this watch can go 1 kilometer below the surface of the ocean, far deeper than any human has ever gone. This watch’s design includes a removable titanium guard on the crown at 2 o’clock and a helium escape valve at 9 for prolonged or saturation dives. The rubber strap has an expandable element that adjusts to changes in wrist size during dives, caused by the compression of neoprene diving suits.

The case is in titanium and the bezel has 12-notched teeth for easy manipulation, even while wearing gloves. On the dial are 15 hammerhead sharks. One shark is stamped on the case back and a red one swims on the side of the crown guard and the dial counter.

Inside the watch is the calibre UN-320 with a silicium spiral and anchor escapement. It has a power reserve of around 48 hours, features a date at 3 o’clock and a small seconds counter at 5 o’clock. The Diver Deep Dive is a limited edition of 300 pieces.
