The new face of luxury timekeeping. Do take the time to stop and stare.
The name and the brand Hermès has always been synonymous to luxury and quality craftsmanship. First established by Thierry Hermès in 1837 as a harness workshop, the product lines of the company soon grew to include clothing, leather goods, handbags, perfume, tableware and jewelry. Today, Hermes is a multi-million dollar firm with hundreds of boutiques and franchises across the globe, and continues to provide nothing but the highest-quality goods for its clientele.
In the year 2000, La Montre Hermès approached Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier with the intent of developing its own watch line. The company chose its partner well, as Vaucher Manufacture had a long and distinguished tradition of creating superb-quality mechanical watches. The collaboration resulted in the Dressage wristwatch, featuring the highprecision H 1928 calibre, which debuted in 2003. This was followed by the Moon Phase and Retrograde Calendar versions of the Dressage, equipped with the H 1929 calibre, as well as the Cape Cod 1928 simple calendar self-winding mechanical movement, and the Cape Cod 8 Days.
By the end of 2006, La Montre Hermès had acquired a 25% stake in the capital of Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. This synergy of companies would result in the creation of an entirely new movement: The Calibre H1. The Simple Calendar variant combines the classic watch functions of displaying the hours, minutes, date and seconds, while the H1 Big Date possesses an additional module that shows the date via large numerals on two separate discs. Both movements operate at a frequency of 28,000 vibrations per hour and offer a dual energy source, resulting in a power reserve of up to 50 hours. A ceramic ball bearing mechanism within the oscillating weight negates the need for lubrication, while Glucydur – a hard, elastic, nonmagnetic and stainless material – was used in producing the balance. Other parts of the mechanism are made with German silver, assuring strength and quality.
The H1 Big Date Calibre lies at the center of Hermès latest luxury timepiece offering: The Clipper H1. The watch is made up of 316L steel, measuring 43.5 mm in diameter. It has a glare-proof sapphire crystal front and case-back, and is water resistant up to 100 meters. The dial, available in charcoal, white, or etoupe, possesses superluminova-coated numerals and hands, and is adorned with Hermès distinctive “H” symbol.
Sporty, yet classy and refined in its appearance, the Clipper H1 would make a welcome addition to any watch collection, and would look absolutely beautiful on your wrist.
