The Chronograph Reimagined

Singer Track1 Hong Kong Edition

REIMAGINING WATCHMAKING
Singer Reimagined was born from the encounter between Rob Dickinson, Founder and creative Director of Singer Vehicle Design, and Italian watch designer Marco Borraccino. The company was created to reimagine high-watchmaking, combining obsessive attention to detail, unique perspectives and a love for the iconic sport watches of the 1960s and 1970s. The duo was soon joined by master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht who would provide a revolutionary chronograph movement to power their first opus, Track1. With Track1, Singer Reimagined redefines the chronograph functionality. Ten years in the making, its revolutionary movement, the AgenGraphe, goes beyond the limitations imposed by preceding mechanisms, The founders: Rob Dickinson & Marco Borraccino enabling a centralized indication of the chronograph functions, thus enabling a radical focus on legibility and performance. The time of day is presented in striking relief around the periphery of the dial by the small pointer at 6 o’clock, floating just above 2 rotating discs.

Following the introduction of the Launch Edition in June 2017 and the Geneva Edition in January 2018, Singer Reimagined now unveils the third version of Track1. Named the Hong Kong Edition, this adrenaline-infused stopwatch will make its debut in June at The Lavish Attic, one of the city’s most exclusive purveyors of fine timepieces.

Track1 was brought to life by a team of experts driven by the pursuit of aesthetic and engineering perfection, passionate professionals guided by the need to embrace challenges to foster innovation and creativity. Together with its technical partner DelWest, Singer Reimagined refined a process to produce technical components: aluminum-ceramization. In a bold move, this high-performance process is now used to manufacture the black case of the Track1 Hong Kong edition.

Ceramic-aluminum is crafted by electro-plasma oxidation. The surface layer of a special, aerospace-specification aluminum alloy is transformed into ceramic. The result of this high-tech process is a super-black case combining exceptional scratch, wear and corrosion resistance with the lightness of its aluminum core.

This cutting-edge material offers comfort, resistance and great aesthetics. The interplay between light and shadows enhances the sleek lines of the 43 mm barrel-shaped case and its smooth-to-the-touch surface offers an exceptional tactile experience. Located on either side of the case for enhanced operations and ergonomics, the crown and pushers are fashioned out of grade 5 titanium. Their surface is treated with a deep black DLC coating providing superior resistance and head-turning good looks.

On the dial, adrenaline is set to full throttle with striking orange accents; the high contrast handsnensure optimal legibility while the tachymeter creates a clear separation between the peripheral time of day and the central elapsed time. The Singer Reimagined Track1 Hong Kong edition is paired with a new sporty technical textile strap combining lightness and strength. It is perforated with brushed grade 5 titanium screwdown rivets. To complement the sporty orange accents on the dial, the strap features stitching in a matching color. It is secured with a folding clasp whose opening spring takes the shape of the brand’s logo.

A limited edition of 50 watches, the Singer Reimagined Track1 Hong Kong edition is available for pre-order beginning today with deliveries as of September 2018.

THE ENGINE UNDER THE BONNET
The AgenGraphe, the calibre powering the Singer Track1 stands apart from all previous chronograph movements. The result of a decade of development, this groundbreaking piece of mechanical ingenuity completely redefines fundamental principles that have remained unchanged for decades.

The underlying idea that led to the invention of the AgenGraphe was to enhance the legibility of the chronograph – which is usually poor – with the use of small counters spread out across the dial. Thanks to a radically new architecture, the AgenGraphe brings together all the chronograph functions in the centre of the watch, allowing for an easy and intuitive reading of elapsed time. To further enhance legibility, the chronograph incorporates jumping minute and hour indicators.

To connect the chronograph mechanism to the timekeeping gear train, the AgenGraphe features an innovative clutch mechanism. The coupling is made horizontally which requires less space, yet it is made using friction, just like a vertical clutch. The dial-side rotor (made possible because the hands are on a central axis) leaves an unimpeded view of the movement and its 477 meticulously hand-finished parts.
